Luke 

 

“Only Luke is with me…” - 2 Timothy 4:11

 

Paper and pencil which were placed on the table of Danie, an artist, became friends within some days. One day, when Danie sat on the chair and took the pencil, paper cried a lot and said, “I won’t come.” Danie took another paper and began to draw. Pencil was unhappy with that paper. It asked that paper, “Why did you cry?” Paper said, “Whenever Danie takes you, he will make you suffer by sharpening you. At that time, if I come, your sharpened tip will pierce me. I will get the pain. I will lose my purity. Pencil said, “Even if we suffer, we become more beautiful and respectful. If my tip is sharpened, I draw a very beautiful picture. If you are drawn with many designs rather than remaining as a white paper, you will have more pride. You become costly! This will be your pride, no?”

 

Like this paper, when we suffer, men around us think to run away from us. But, the man of the God, Luke, who wrote Acts and the gospel of Luke, was with Paul, at any situation and fulfilled his ministry. Even at the time when Paul was imprisoned, Luke did not run away from him and was with him only. Luke was a physician. Even if he had a good education and was placed in a good place in this society, because of his love towards Christ, he was with Paul at any circumstance. When Paul wrote letter to Timothy, from the prison, Paul said,” Only Luke is with me.” (2 Timothy 4:11). He exposed the character of Christ in his daily life.  

 

Beloveds! Let us think, are we having in our life, the matters learnt from the life of Luke? In any situation, he taught the gospel without any shame. He was the one who helped Paul who was in chains because of Christ. Will we also help the missionaries in all situations? Will we give our shoulders in all their sufferings, without any shame? Since Luke was like that, even if he was not an apostle, he was directed by the Holy Spirit, being with him, to write two gospels. If we are like this, there is no doubt that the Holy Spirit will lift us in this world and in the world to come.
