Loving Alice 

 

“He who does not love does not know God, for God is love.” – 1John 4:8  

 

The train began to move with the noise choo-choo, choo-choo and chuff-chuff. The word train would have given you the desire for train journey. Yes, just like you, Alice also had a strong wish to travel by train. She expressed her desire to her mother. One day Alice and her mother boarded the train. They were going to their grandma’s house. Alice was so excited and thrilled. She sat on seat near the window and was admiring the beauty of nature. Now the train reached the destination. So, they got down. As it was cold, Alice put on her sweater. She was holding her mother’s hand and walking towards the exit. There an old man was asking everyone to give something as he was very hungry. Alice was moved by the sight of the old man. She was reminded of her dear grandpa. Considering him as his grandfather, she got money from her mother and gave it to him with a broad smile and said, “Here it is, grandpa” and left the place. 

 

After sometime her mother felt that they were followed by someone and they turned back. It was none other than the same old man. Alice’s mother asked him, “What do you want? Why are you following us?” The old man replied with tears, “So far no one has ever called me grandpa. When your little daughter called me grandpa, I felt as if I have found some new relationship because I am longing for love all these days. Please, ask her to call me grandpa one more time.” Seeing his tears Alice called him lovingly, “grandpa! grandpa.” They took the old man to the grandma’s house. They offered him food and shared the love of Jesus with him. 

 

Little sisters and brothers, did you notice the loving nature of Alice? She did not disregard and belittle him as he was a beggar. She spoke kindly and called him lovingly as grandpa. We too must not look down upon the old, poor, needy and the affected. We must enquire about them. Thus, Jesus will be well pleased with us. Ok.
