All work is dignified

 

“Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with you might…” – Ecclesiastes 9:10

 

On his home visit, a pastor met a youth in a certain family. The pastor inquired the youth about his job. The youth replied saying, “I am a civil engineer and I have applied for jobs. At present I am assisting a contractor in the construction work of a house. I shall continue with the same job, until I get a good job. Although I am not well paid, I do the work to help my parents who had spent a lot for my education.” The pastor was impressed by his explanation. He cheered him, blessed him and prayed for him. After a few months, the youth got a very good job. 

 

William Carey who worked in a cobbler’s shop came to India as a missionary and became a pioneer in translating the entire Bible into many languages in India. Many books in Tamil literature were translated into different languages by him. Thus, he could finish his missionary task. It is quite certain that we will be lifted up and entrusted with greater work if we are faithful in the little work assigned to us and we shall be a blessing to others as well. 

 

In the Bible we read that Joseph was brought down to Egypt as a captive. Although he was treated as a slave, he carried out the work and responsibilities thrust upon him faithfully and perfectly. The Lord was with Joseph and he was a prosperous man. The Lord blessed the Egyptians house for Joseph’s sake. After overcoming trials and hardships, he was made the Lord of all Egypt. 

 

Beloved brothers and sisters, are we weary of not getting a suitable job for our qualification? Let us do the given work, with all our might. All work is dignified and no work is menial. We can work anywhere if we are willing to persevere. Only idling without doing anything is considered as menial. Lowly job is the one that displeases God such as robbing, plundering and deceiving. All the work is dignified if done honestly. For sure God will be with us and exalt us as He had exalted Joseph if we do the task entrusted to us diligently and with whole heart.
