Noah
“Noah…became heir of the righteousness which is according to faith.” - Hebrews 11:7
In the days of creation, God saw everything He had made and it was very good. But when men began to multiply, the Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth. God grieved in His heart and felt sorry that He had made mankind. So, he intended to destroy them from the face of the earth. Among that great multitudes, God’s eyes saw Noah, who is described as a just man, perfect in his generation and walking with God. As His name suggests he led a life saying, ‘No’ to the world and ‘ah’ ok to the Lord. The world depends on a very huge crowd to start a revolution. But the Lord looks for an individual to stand out for Him. Noah was the individual separated from the rest as he had pleased God.
Noah, the grace receiver: When the mankind had corrupted their way on the earth, they were doomed to destruction but Noah alone found grace in the eyes of the Lord amidst a sinful world. Grace is a gift or favour towards the unworthy, when we don’t deserve to be treated so well and generously. Have we ever recollected the favours each of us found in our lives? If we are provided with food to eat, clothes to wear and a house to live in, we are enjoying more comforts than 75% people. If we have the facility to contact anyone at any time over the mobile, we are higher than 175 crore people who are denied of the opportunity. We, who have woken up from bed refreshed and regained strength and energy and void of diseases are more blessed than the people who breathed their last in sleep. Do we have enough water to quench our thirst? That means we are much better than 100 crore people. God grants us such grace each and every day. Are we forsaking the grace given to us? Let us ponder. Noah walked worthy of the grace he received from God.
Subservient Noah: Noah did not stop with receiving the gift of grace from the Lord. He also obeyed all the laws of God. Noah did according to all that God commanded Him. We read in Hebrews 11:7 that, “By faith Noah being divinely warned of things not yet seen, moved with Godly fear prepared an ark for the saving of his household.” Noah obeyed the word of God and accomplished the task assigned to him perfectly, decades before it started raining. That was a radical obedience. Suppose our obedience to the word of God is 99% and we fail 1% it denotes our disobedience. 100% obedience is called obedience. Noah was mocked by his friends, kith and kin but he paid no heed to their comments. He did what was bidden of the Lord to do although it seemed an unlikely thing. Isn’t such obedience that of Noah necessary for us? Let us obey the word of God and fulfil God’s will for us.
