The Cheetah's Run
“…and let us run with patience the race that is set before us. Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith…" - Hebrews 12:1,2
Raju and his son were sitting on the sofa, watching television. On the screen, a cheetah was chasing a deer across the plains in search of prey. The son watched eagerly, wondering if the cheetah would catch the deer. However, the deer managed to escape. Immediately, he exclaimed, "Oh no! It got away." His father said, "Son, the cheetah ran very fast at the beginning, but it could not maintain that same speed; it became exhausted. It is much the same with you. When you were newly saved, or at the beginning of a year when you made a resolution, you drew close to God through Bible reading and prayer. But as time passed, your momentum slowed, and you drifted away from Him."
During His time on earth, Jesus Christ spoke to the people using parables. One such instance was the Parable of the Sower. The seed represents the Word of God. Seeds fall in various places: along the path, on rocky ground, among thorns, and on good soil. Those who are like the seed sown on good soil belong to the Kingdom of Heaven. Just as birds snatch away the seed sown along the path, the devil snatches away the Word before it can bear fruit. Seeds sown on rocky ground or among thorns may sprout, but they do not endure. Like the cheetah's run, there is great speed at the start; however, when the cares, hardships, and pressures of the world arise, people turn away from God. The reason for this is that their hearts have not been strengthened in the Lord. If we reflect on the good things God has done, praise Him, believe in His power, and keep our eyes fixed on Him, we can continue to run the race for Him.
Dear reader, let us take a moment to examine ourselves. How is our race going? Did we start swiftly like a cheetah, only to slow down later? Let us fix our eyes on the Lord, restart our race, and run on with perseverance. Let us keep running towards Him without stopping for the duration of our time on earth and until we reach heaven. We shall inherit the victory.
