A Blessing or a Warning?

 

“…but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness…” - 2 Peter 2:5

 

Today, the Lord’s words are being preached across the world in various ways. Many prefer to hear words of blessing, success and a prosperous life rather than words of warning calling for repentance from sin.

 

Jesus Christ said, “As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be also at the coming of the Son of Man” (Matthew 24:37). Noah was a man who heard God’s voice and carried out His will; he preached righteousness. Although he proclaimed God’s warning that the world would be destroyed by a flood, no one listened, and consequently, they perished. Noah lived uprightly amidst a wicked people and heeded God’s warning; thus, he and his family were preserved. The people of Nineveh heard God’s warning, humbled themselves, and repented; therefore, the Lord spared them from destruction. God also preserved Lot and his family, a righteous man living among the sinful people of Sodom and Gomorrah.

 

We, too, must accept the Lord’s warning, turn our hearts toward His words concerning righteousness and judgment, and walk in obedience to them. The Scripture states, “If he walks in My statutes and keeps My judgments faithfully, he is just” (Ezekiel 18:9). Just as in the days of Noah, many today disregard God’s warning and continue to live unrighteously. However, let us heed the words of warning, repent, and like Noah, Lot, and the people of Nineveh, live righteously so that we may be preserved at the coming of God. Let us be saved from destruction and attain eternal life. That is the eternal blessing.
