For Children to Be Blessed
“Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” - Proverbs 22:6
Born to Christian parents who were both teachers, my sister and me, by the great grace of the Lord, were well-guided through our parents' discipline, love, and exemplary way of life. Through the challenges and struggles of life they faced, we learned both what we should do and what we should not do. In addition to his teaching profession, our father also served as a church catechist. Consequently, through his love and his ministry work, he taught us valuable life lessons by allowing us to observe and learn from his own example. He took us to night prayer meetings, missionary vision gatherings, Bible examinations, and music training sessions; he also took us to visit relatives' homes, thereby training us in social etiquette and norms. Our mother was a strict person; she taught us about moral principles, proper dressing, and how to handle our money, time, and responsibilities with honesty and integrity.
Through all these things, my sister and me learned to face and overcome every challenge in life together with the Lord, by living in the fear of the Lord in all matters. We now impart these very same lessons to our own children, as well as to the children, youth, and adults whom we teach and guide. As stated in Psalm 103:17, the promise that “the mercy of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting on those who fear Him, and His righteousness to children’s children” has been faithfully fulfilled in our lives. Therefore, as we enter this new academic year, let us dedicate ourselves as parents, grandparents, teachers, pastors, and mentors to raising and guiding children in a godly manner. Let us live as worthy examples, teach them to fear the Lord, and continually encourage and monitor their education and the development of their God-given talents.
We pray and bless our children and the next generation that this academic year may be a year of blessing, growth, and success for them. May the Lord Himself establish them in the vision and purpose He has given them, and may He richly bless their lives.
