Trust in God
“Thou shalt have no other gods before me” - Exodus 20:3
A village missionary used to travel daily to neighbouring villages to carry out his ministry. It was customary for a certain brother to buy him a meal whenever their paths crossed. One day, that brother said to the missionary, "Come and minister in the areas surrounding my village." The missionary joined him in ministry, thinking to himself, "For the entire day today, whether for vehicle fuel or food, I need not worry about anything." In the evening, having concluded their ministry work, the brother departed, saying, "Let us meet again." The missionary, however, was left alone hungry and tired and without help, and for the next day ministry, he found there was no fuel left in his vehicle. In that moment, a specific verse came to his mind: "You shall have no other gods before Me." God impressed upon him the truth that if one places their trust in human beings, those very people will effectively become their "gods." Immediately realizing his error, he surrendered himself completely into God's hands and prayed, "O God, lead me according to Your will." Just then, a sister invited him, saying, "Please come to our home, have a meal, pray for us and then depart." He went to that home, offered a prayer, and as soon as he finished eating, they placed a monetary offering in his hands. Using that offering, his ministry continued without interruption the following day.
In the Scriptures, specifically in Isaiah 55:8-9, the Lord declares: "For My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways," says the Lord. "For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts." We, too, often place our trust in various things, such as our education, talents, wealth, or social status. We often fail to remember our Creator and the very purpose for which He created us. In many instances, our focus remains fixed solely upon the people and circumstances surrounding us in this world. However, the Psalmist declares that it is far better to place our trust in the Lord than to rely on humans or even on those in positions of authority.
Dear All, regardless of whether the task or ministry entrusted to us is great or small, when we undertake it with enthusiasm, faithfulness, and reliance upon God's assistance, He will lead us in miraculous ways. When we commit our ways to the Lord and place our confidence in Him, He Himself will bring our endeavours successful. Therefore, let us look to Him alone with our whole hearts, and let us go forth each day, filled with His love.
