Clothe Yourself with Humility

 

“But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men” - Philippians 2:7

 

When I was a child, I read a story about a king who would disguise himself as an ordinary citizen and go around his kingdom to meet his people. His special wig and simple clothes hid his identity as a king and made him look like a common man. Because he frequently visited the cities and towns within this disguise, he was able to understand and swiftly resolve the problems faced by his people. He was able to meet their needs.

 

To resolve the issue of our sins, God, our Creator, left His heavenly throne; under the name “Jesus,” He emptied Himself, took on the form of a servant, and came in the likeness of men. In other words, God came to this earth as a human being. Jesus lived on this earth as a man and experienced all the sufferings, temptations, and difficulties that we face. Yet, He committed no sin. He taught us matters concerning the Kingdom of Heaven. Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and obeyed God even unto death, even death on the cross. He died on the cross to deliver us from sin and curses. For our sake, He rose again on the third day. God exalted Him above all else and bestowed upon Him a name that is above every other name. Jesus Christ gave His life as a sacrifice for our sins. Since we have received comfort and mercy through Christ, are we also living with humility like our Savior? In accordance with Philippians 2:3, we should do nothing out of selfish ambition or pride. Instead, we should consider others better than ourselves.

 

Dear beloved, let us cultivate the mind of Christ and humble ourselves so that we may love and serve others. Let us strive to attain such a mindset. Let us examine ourselves to see whether we truly express gratitude for the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. Let us continue to pray that the very same attitude that was in Christ Jesus may be present within us. “He has shown you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?” (Micah 6:8)
