Be a Role Model
“For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you” - John 13:15
Hi kids! You really love playing games, don't you? As soon as school holidays begin, you become so energetic that no one can keep you at home, isn't that right? If asked what game you enjoy playing the most, many of you would likely say cricket. Just like you, Kumar was also absolutely crazy about cricket. Not only that, but he also excelled in his studies, in attending church, and in his prayer life.
One day during the holidays, Kumar went out to play cricket with his friends. While they were playing happily, there was a loud crash! When they turned around, they saw that the ball they had hit had struck the window of the neighbouring house, shattering the glass. All the children who were playing immediately shifted the blame onto Kumar claiming he was the one who broke the window and ran off to their homes. Left all alone, and weeping bitterly, Kumar walked toward that house. Standing at the entrance of the house was a tall, stout man. Kumar was terrified just looking at him. Nevertheless, still crying, he approached the man and pleaded, "I'm so sorry, Uncle! It was we who broke your window. Please forgive us." He added, "I will tell my father about the cost of the window repairs, and we will pay you back." The man looked at Kumar and said, "Don't cry, son! Everyone else who was with you tried to find a way to escape without acknowledging the mistake they had made. But you are the only one who came forward to ask for forgiveness. I truly admire your good character." Saying this, he went inside the house, brought out a large chocolate bar and gave it to Kumar, and sent him on his way. Kumar walked home happily. Just then, an elderly man who had been watching everything unfold called out to Kumar and asked, "Who are you?" "What is your name? How did you come to possess such fine qualities?" he inquired. The young man replied, "I am a Christian boy," and went on to share the love of Christ. As the elderly man listened, he felt regret in his heart; despite having been a Christian for so many years, he realized that he himself lacked such good qualities.
Dear brothers and sisters, how about you? Like Kumar, will you admit your mistakes, say sorry, and be a good example to others, leading them to Christ?
Be a role model just like Jesus.
