A Friend Who Truly Loves

“A friend loveth at all times,..” - Proverbs 17:17

Among the blessings we have received, our relationships and friends hold a special place. Relationships serve as the roots of human life and act as bridges for sharing our emotions. True friends stand by us at all times whether in moments of hardship or loss. When we encounter difficult circumstances, if we are blessed with godly friends, they will pray for us and offer counsel grounded in the Scriptures. Such a friendship is, indeed, a blessing from the Lord.

In the Bible, the friendship between David and Jonathan stands as a prime example of true friendship. 1 Samuel 18:1 states: "The soul of Jonathan was knit to the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul." Jonathan did not compete with David. Accepting God's will, he gave David his robe, his garments, his sword, his bow, and even his belt. This was a sacrificial and selfless friendship. John 15:13 declares: "Greater love has no one than this, to lay down one’s life for one’s friends." Jesus demonstrated His love by laying down His life on the cross. As written in Philippians 4:19: "And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus." He provides us with strength in our weakness, peace in our turmoil, and forgiveness for our sins.

However, the help that human beings can offer us extends only to a certain limit. At times, due to circumstances, they may even be unable to offer us assistance. In today's world, even if we possess every material wealth, can true peace and happiness truly be found within us? While money remains a primary human necessity, the truth is that God's peace and our relationship with Him is of far greater importance. Jesus is our very best friend. Human friends can accompany us only up to a certain point; however, Jesus will never depart from us, nor will He ever forsake us. As the Psalmist David declares, "Even if my father and my mother forsake me, the Lord will take me in." Accept Him as your closest friend; in Him alone are found true peace and enduring joy. At every moment of life, place your trust in the Lord Jesus and walk alongside Him. May He fill us with His peace and reign supreme in our lives. Amen.
