The Scripture Is Better for Me
“The law from Your mouth is better to me than thousands of gold and silver coins.” - Psalm 119:72
Hello, dear kids! I hope you are all doing well. Since school is on vacation, I’m sure you are having a lot of fun. Not only that, but you also get to attend VBS! There, you can enjoy learning many Bible verses, singing wonderful songs, and watching plays. Alright, shall we get into our story?
A wealthy man took his Bible and some money, and as he walked along the road, he prayed, “Dear Jesus, today I want to give this to someone who is struggling, to help them out.” Just then, he came across an elderly man sitting by the roadside, begging for alms. The wealthy man approached him and held out his hands offering the money in one hand and the Bible in the other. The elderly man replied, “I am hungry, and I don’t have a single penny to my name. I feel tempted to take this money. However, my mother used to quote a specific Bible verse to me often: ‘The law from Your mouth is better to me than thousands of gold and silver coins’ (Psalm 119:72). I am the one who failed to prioritize the Scriptures and instead lived life according to my own whims.” Thinking to himself, “Let me finally read and see what exactly is contained in the Scriptures my mother spoke of,” he chose to accept the Bible. The wealthy man was deeply astonished; he marvelled at the fact that, despite suffering from hunger and starvation, the old man had chosen to accept the Bible. The wealthy man then placed the money inside an envelope, tucked it inside the Bible, handed it to the elderly man, and walked away.
Yes, dear children, the verses of the Bible are far more precious than gold or silver. You should pick it up and read it every single day. If you happen not to understand the meaning, you should ask your elders or perhaps your Sunday School teacher to help you understand it. If you read the Scriptures daily and live according to them, God will surely bless you. As that elderly man continued reading and turning the pages, an envelope fell out of the Bible. Curious as to what it was, he picked it up and looked inside and there, within the envelope, was money! He was utterly astonished. At that moment, a specific verse came to his mind: “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” (Matt. 6:33)
Yes, my dear little kids! Just as Jesus blessed that elderly man, if you read the Scriptures every day, He will speak to you through them and bless you as well. Look at how great our Lord is! Alright, I trust that by now you have begun reading the Scriptures. Okay, bye!
