Come, Let Us Rise and Build!

 

“How that in a great trial of affliction the abundance of their joy and their deep poverty abounded unto the riches of their liberality." - 2 Corinthians 8:2

 

Mary Ammal, a flower seller, wondered how she could help with the construction work of the church. She decided to tie and sell extra flowers and then donate the resulting profits to the church. She began putting this plan into action that very same day. By dedicating extra time to tie and sell additional flowers, she managed to accumulate approximately Rs.25,000 over the course of about six months. She then went to the church and handed the sum over to the pastor. Both the congregation and the pastor were astonished; witnessing that mother's devotion and dedication, they glorified God. This is a true incident.

 

That mother's actions bring to mind the passage in 2 Corinthians 8:3. In it, we read that the churches of Macedonia were not only willing to give according to their means but were also eager to give beyond their means. Furthermore, in 2 Corinthians 9:6-7, the Apostle Paul bears witness: "He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. So let each one give as he has purposed in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver."

 

What are we going to do today? Does the burden regarding the list of needs for the work of proclaiming the Gospel weigh upon us and compel us to act? Like Mary Ammal, we ought to possess a deep yearning to do something anything for the Lord and for the work of His church. Do we have the thought: "What is my contribution toward glorifying His name, making it known, and building up the Kingdom of Heaven?" Do we have a burden in our hearts that we should not stand before God empty-handed, without helping even one soul to be saved in the life He has graciously given us? Let us act with a full realization of our duty and let us give generously.

 

Your prayers are absolutely essential for the success of the initiatives undertaken by missionaries who have dedicated their lives to ministry, and to ensure that the work of proclaiming the Gospel continues without hindrance. Whatever your talents or your wealth may be, dedicate them to His work. This is urgent! It is imperative! There is no more time to loose.
