Are You Ready?
“Therefore, be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh” - Matthew 24:44
The very purpose of Jesus Christ's first coming was to redeem humanity from sin and to prepare them to inherit eternal life. The first coming has already taken place. He was crucified, died, was buried, and rose again on the third day. Jesus said to His disciples, “I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.” Yes, He will come, take us with Him, and keep us with Him for all eternity. What a joyful hope this is! The Scriptures warn us that at His Second Coming, Jesus will arrive at an hour we do not expect; therefore, we must always be ready.
When we prepare for a journey in this world, we make many arrangements. If so much preparation is needed for an earthly journey, how much more should we prepare to enter the Kingdom of God! First and foremost, we must accept the Lord Jesus Christ as our personal Savior, and our sins must be washed away by the blood of Jesus. Furthermore, with the aid of the Holy Spirit, we must be guarded daily so that we do not fall back into sin.
Jesus Christ compares the Kingdom of Heaven to ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. Of those ten, five were wise, and the other five were foolish. When the bridegroom arrived, the five wise virgins who were prepared entered the wedding hall with him, and the door was shut. The other five virgins lost the privilege of entering in with the bridegroom.
In the same way, are we prepared for His second coming? Are we living a holy life with our “lamps and oil” that is, salvation and the anointing of the Holy Spirit? If not, we may be like the foolish virgins who were left behind. Let us examine ourselves daily, check if there is anything in us that displeases God, and walk in the path of righteousness. Then our Lord will grant us the blessing of inheriting eternal life.
