The Best

"By faith Abel offered to God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain..." - Hebrews 11:4

One night, I was meditating on the heart of God. The following morning, during my early-morning prayer time, God placed a question in my heart. He asked, "What is your heart like? Is your heart like Abel's? Or is it like Cain's?" I turned to the Scriptures and read that passage. Abel honoured God deeply and gave his offering with a desire to present the very best from what he had. Cain did not have that mindset; his act of honouring God went no further than the mere offering itself. I read and meditated on the fact that the Lord accepted Abel and his offering. From that day forward, I began to examine the attitude of my own heart when it comes to giving to God.

When I was working at a bank, a certain individual would come in every month, hand over a specific sum of money, and exchange it for brand-new currency notes. When I asked him why, he said, “I want to give my offering to the Lord only in new notes, from my salary.” The Lord never stated that He would accept an offering only if it consisted of new currency notes; yet, I was able to understand the heart of that individual a heart determined to give God the very best in all things. I have observed others with a similar spirit as well. At the grocery store run by my father, some customers would come in on Saturdays just as the shop was closing and hand over 50 or 100 rupees and exchange it for ten-rupee notes. When asked why, they would explain that they wanted to give a separate offering to every single member of their household to be placed in the church offering plate the following day. In each of these households, there was typically at least one family member working abroad. One might offer a contribution of 100 rupees. However, this is often done merely out of a sense of obligation to give something, rather than with a genuine desire to offer God something truly exceptional. In speaking about the matter of giving offerings, I’m not sharing with a heart of judgment. Indeed, Jesus Christ Himself never condemned anyone based on the monetary value of their offering. On one occasion, Jesus Christ commended a poor widow for the two small coins she placed in the offering box. Therefore, whether the offering we give amounts to ten or a hundred, the specific sum is not the issue. What He observes is the attitude and mindset with which we give. From these two individuals, I learned a valuable lesson regarding the act of giving to God.

Dear friends reading this! It is a mandatory requirement that we contribute a portion of our income to God as our offering. Let us reflect: Do we give merely out of a sense of duty much like Cain did? Or do we give with a heart that honours God, offering Him the very best and the most excellent of what we possess? If your contribution is the "best" you can offer, He will exalt and bless you to become "The Best."
