Daily Devotion (English) – 20.03.2026

My Talent is for Jesus

"Withhold not good from them to whom it is due, when it is in the power of thine hand to do it” - Proverbs 3:27

Dorcas (also called Tabitha) was the first woman whom God raised back to life through the Apostles. The name "Dorcas" means "female deer." She is a woman who is not often spoken of, yet she is specifically identified as a "disciple" in the New Testament. She performed abundant acts of charity and benevolence doing so much good for so many people that she came to be known as a woman defined by her "good works." Her other name was Tabitha. In the Bible, she is not portrayed as a prominent minister or preacher; nor did she possess high social status, extensive education, or great wealth. Yet, through her life, she revealed the nature of Jesus. It is a matter of great distinction that she is the only woman in the New Testament explicitly referred to as a "disciple." Throughout her entire life, she utilized the talent God had bestowed upon her the skill of sewing to create garments and tunics for the poor and widows living in the city of Joppa. By employing her manual skill in sewing to assist the poor and needy, she brought glory to the name of God. After she fell ill and passed away, people spoke about her good deeds and loving nature.

As we read this today, we too should strive to be disciples of the Lord people who engage in good works and acts of charity. Through our own lives, we must reveal to the world the true nature of the Lord. As stated in the biblical verse Philippians 2:4: "Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others." We must not live solely for ourselves, but also for the sake of others. We must demonstrate the faith we have placed in Jesus Christ through our actions. The true significance of the works we have performed will ultimately be revealed at the time of our passing. We should speak more through the lives we lead than through the words we utter with our mouths.

Indeed, Dorcas lived for the glory of God's name using the needle in her hand and thereby made her contribution before she departed. What do you hold in your hand today? Is it a pen? A typewriter? A computer? Whatever it is that you hold in your hand, you can continue to use it to contribute your share toward the Lord's Kingdom. Let us not miss the opportunities and moments presented to us; rather, utilizing the talents and skills God has bestowed upon us, let us use the humble instruments in our hands to live as a blessing to others.
