"I Will Give You What Is Mine"
"...and distribution was made unto every man according as he had need" - Acts 4:35
Paul Yonggi Cho, a minister from South Korea, was taking a visiting foreign missionary on a tour to different places. During their journey, the missionary saw an old man ploughing his field. But instead of oxen, two young boys were pulling the plow. This deeply moved the missionary, and he asked about it. With tears in his eyes, Paul Yonggi Cho explained, "These young men are believers who attend my church. When we were raising funds for the church's construction, this man had no money to contribute. So, he sold his two oxen and donated the proceeds toward building the church. Consequently, his two young sons now stand in the place where the oxen once stood, pulling the plow themselves." Looking at the old man, the visiting minister became tearful and said, "I have seen many people give generously to God, but your sacrificial offering has truly moved my heart." To this, the old man replied, "Sir, what I did was not a sacrifice; rather, I consider it a privilege. Because of this, I have been blessed manifold."
In the Scriptures, we can read about a beautiful incident in the verses found in Luke 21:1–4. While many others gave large sums to God, Jesus Himself bore witness to a poor widow who despite her poverty gave away the only two coins she possessed; coins she had kept specifically to sustain her life and ensure her very survival. Giving to the Lord is not about giving out of our abundance, but rather about giving wholeheartedly and contentedly out of the little we have. To be able to give, one need not be "rich" in material wealth; it is sufficient to be "rich" in heart.
Dear friends who are reading this, even if we make countless sacrifices and offer them to the Lord, they can never equal or parallel the sacrifice that Jesus made for us at Calvary. Therefore, let us continue to give and share with God and His ministries whenever we are able. Let us keep doing whatever lies within our power as our contribution. God will be glorified.
