Participation in God's Work

 

"...everyone whose heart stirred him up...brought an offering to the Lord" - Ex. 35:21

 

If the Lord's plan is to be fulfilled on earth, each of us is expected to contribute. For example, when the Tabernacle was to be built, Moses showed the design given by God and asked the people for their cooperation. The people responded willingly and gave with all their hearts. Moses also explained what materials were needed to build the Tabernacle. Skilled men like Bezalel and Oholiab, who were talented in artistic work, were chosen to supervise and carry out the work. When Moses shared the Lord’s will with the people, their hearts were stirred and they became excited in their spirits.

 

Each one gave gold ornaments, various kinds of yarn, various kinds of leather, silver, bronze, and acacia wood according to their ability. Those who could not afford to give materials used their skills and talents to help with the construction work. They gave enthusiastically, not for Moses the leader, but for God. When Moses said this, they gave immediately, enthusiastically, and willingly. The people brought their freewill offerings every morning and gathered them. Then the wise men who were doing the work came and told Moses, saying, “The people are bringing more than enough for the work that the Lord has commanded us to do.” Both men and women gave willingly and generously. Their contribution was so great that Moses finally had to tell the people to stop bringing offerings because there was already more than enough.

 

Dear friends, for God’s will and His plans to be fulfilled on earth, He does not expect the contribution of angels. Instead, He desires that each of us give generously and joyfully from what He has already given us. He does not force anyone to give but has given us the freedom to offer willingly. We have received countless blessings from Him. Therefore, let us not give reluctantly, but with joy just like the Israelites. Let us dedicate our contributions so that God’s plan may be fulfilled.
