The Good Contribution of the Good Samaritan
"And he said, He that shewed mercy on him. Then said Jesus unto him, Go, and do thou likewise" - Luke 10:37
A man was traveling from Jerusalem to Jericho when he was attacked by robbers. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him, and left him half dead. A priest and a Levite, who were passing by, saw him and passed by on the other side. Then a Samaritan came along. When he saw the injured man, he had compassion on him. He went to him, treated his wounds with oil and wine, bandaged them, placed him on his own chariot, brought him to an inn, and took care of him. This is a parable told by Jesus Christ!
The good nature seen in the Samaritan was not shown by the Levite and the priest. This Samaritan spent his time, poured oil and wine on the wounds of the wounded man, bound up his wounds, took him to the inn, and spent his money. The Samaritan's help to a stranger without any expectations was praised by Jesus Christ.
This is the season of Lent. We are carrying out many things in the churches, such as morning worship, communion service, special convention meetings, rice offerings, and self- denial offerings. All of these are very good. As seen in this parable, the Levites and priests did all these things well. But they turned aside without thinking to help a needy man in front of them.
In this season of Lent, we may have been doing many things for many years. But we are called to think about whether we are doing a good part like the good Samaritan to the needy people in front of us. We must give to our church. That is God's command. At the same time, do we have the change of character that God expects? Let us think about it.
God teaches us another thing from this parable. Today, the Gospel ministry is like the wounded man lying on the road. Are we, like the priest and the Levite, turning away and ignoring the unreached villages? Or are we doing our part by giving our time, talent, and wealth to the gospel work? The Lord is interceding with us through this good role of the Good Samaritan. Am I a Good Samaritan?
