Change Begins with Me
“For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he;…" - Prov. 23:7
A pastor was preparing his sermon notes for Sunday morning service. At that time, his little son kept disturbing him. The pastor thought that only if he gave the boy some work to do would he be able to finish his preparation. There was a world map on the table next to him that caught his eye. An idea came to him! He took it, cut it into different shapes, put the pieces in a box, and gave it to him. He said, “Son, put all these pieces together correctly and bring back the complete world map." The pastor thought to himself that before he could put this picture correctly, I would take my sermon notes.
Without any delay, the boy put it correctly and showed it to his father within three minutes. The pastor was happy that his son had so much intelligence on one side. He was worried that his work was not yet done. He looked at his son who was standing nearby and asked, "How did you manage to add this so quickly?" It was no big deal, Dad. Behind the picture was a picture of a man. He said, "I placed that man correctly, and the world map is now correct." The pastor was pleasantly surprised. He felt that God had spoken to him through his son. The next day, he preached in the church that when we first correct ourselves as individuals, the world around us will automatically correct itself.
The Bible says, "As the thoughts of his heart are, so is he" (Prov. 23:7). "A man will eat good from the fruit of his mouth" (Prov. 13:2). Many times, we are trying to change our circumstances and the people around us. We look for the answer to the problem outside. But the solution for us lies within ourselves, in changing ourselves. Mainly, if we adjust the thoughts of our mind and the words of our mouth according to the Bible, even an upside down life will become smooth and good. Shall we try with God's grace?
