Stay awake
“…Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light” - Eph.5:14
A farmer once took his son through a beautiful village in a bullock cart. Everywhere he went, there were green fields, gardens, and ponds. The natural scenery was very beautiful to see. The son pointed out one by one to his father and asked questions, and he patiently taught him. After some time, the father became tired and sleepy. He stopped the cart, let his son get down to play, and rested under a tree. When he woke up from sleep, he could not find his son. The frightened father prayed, “Jesus, help me,” and when he looked for his son, he saw him fallen into a pond there, and God helped him save him.
Similarly, in the Bible, the wise woman and the foolish woman are all 10 women who sleep. In those days, in the Jewish culture, during the wedding, a 7-day feast is held at the bride's house. It is at night. Since it is night, they have lamps in their hands. When they hear the sound of the bridegroom's arrival, they should be ready. Similarly, when the bridegroom, Jesus Christ, comes, we should also be alert to meet him. When the bridegroom came, the wise women poured oil into their lamps, got ready, and went with the bridegroom. The foolish women could not meet the bridegroom because they had no oil.
Dear reader, this is what Paul says: “Be alert and of sober mind. “Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour” (1 Peter 5:8). To resist the devil, we must be watchful and prayerful. When we are watchful and prayerful, we will be filled with the power of the Spirit. Our spiritual life will be a burning torch. Otherwise, the anointing oil of the Spirit will be gone. We will be in a pitiful state of not being able to meet the Bridegroom. Therefore, let us always be watchful and ready.
