There is no such thing as defeat
“But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” - 1 Corinthians 15:57
There was a war between the Israelites and the Philistines. This was a unique kind of war. The Philistines gathered their army against the Israelites. The Israelite army also encamped. But the battle did not take place. A warrior named Goliath came from the Philistine camp and challenged the Israelite army, saying that if someone fought him individually and won, the Israelites would be considered victorious, and if he won, the Philistines would be considered victorious.
King Saul and the entire Israelite army were trained soldiers. Yet when they heard Goliath’s words, they were afraid and quietly accepted defeat in their hearts. But David, who had come to see his brothers in obedience to his father, could not accept defeat. He asked, "Is there not a reason for my coming?" and described the path God had trained and led him on. He said, “The Lord who saved me from the lion and the bear will also save me from this Philistine." He went forward, disregarding the discouraging words of his brothers and Goliath's strength, and achieved victory in the name of the Lord of Almighty. When struggles and problems arise, if we do not accept defeat but continue to strive in union with Christ, we can inherit victory. Our strength is not what is important, but rather whom we keep our trust on.
Dear friends, you too, in any situation, do not accept defeat, but continue to strive in union with Christ. When we admit defeat by saying, "I cannot do it," fear and discouragement will come and prevent us from moving forward and inheriting victory. That is why the wise Solomon says, "If you faint in the day of adversity, your strength is small" (Proverbs 24:10). Having fought the good fight, finished the race, and kept the faith, Paul says, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me" (Philippians 4:13). You too, continue to strive, and inherit the victory.
