Too many words
"In the multitude of words there wanteth not sin..." - Proverbs 10:19
Sometimes, our respect for a person is based on their speech and conduct. Yes, the words of the tongue can portray a person as noble, but that same small tongue can defile not only our body but also our spirit and soul.
When Believers Church founder, K.P. Yohannan, once pointed out a mistake of a minister, he instructed him to say that it was he who had said it, mentioning his own name. He did not use careless or useless words. Many times, we try to portray ourselves as good by telling others about someone's shortcomings.
In the Bible, the Holy Spirit has given us a precious truth to illustrate this. In 1 Corinthians 1:10-12, when there was division and quarrelling among the believers, Paul said, "Now I urge you, brothers and sisters, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all agree and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly united in mind and thought." The people of Chloe's household did not distort the words or spread slander; they bravely and clearly reported the problem to Paul, mentioning their own name. Yes, instead of spreading slander to others unnecessarily, they were able to report the matter to Paul, who was in a position of leadership.
Are we people who criticize others? We will certainly have to give an account for our words. The Bible says that too many words lead to sin. Let us not exaggerate events or accuse others and spoil ourselves but let us learn to tell everything to God with a humble heart and great reverence. We are not righteous; we all have weakness. Let us protect ourselves based on the word of God. Let us fill our hearts with the word of God.
