For the Welfare of Others...
“…and so will I go in unto the king, which is not according to the law: and if I perish, I perish” - Esther 4:16
Once, when the great leader Kamaraj was inspecting the Paramakudi causeway, he asked the education officer accompanying him, "When this river is in flood, how will the school students on this side of the river go to school?" The officer replied, "They don't come to school during the rainy season, sir." Kamaraj then said, "Then a school should be built on this side of the river." The officer replied that according to the education department's rules, if there is a school within a three-mile radius, permission for another school nearby is not granted. Before he could finish, Kamaraj said, "Use the river as a reason and ask for permission to build a school on this side; I will make the arrangements."
Similarly, our Lord Jesus Christ, during his time, also broke rules of the Sabbath law, which was a legal offense. But even on that day, He healed the man with a withered hand (Matthew 12:10). He healed the woman who was bent over and could not straighten up (Luke 13:11). He healed a man who had been lying on his bed for 38 years. Immediately the man was made well, and he took up his bed and walked. That day was the Sabbath (John 5:9).
The disciples who followed Christ, and later the missionaries who came to our country, fought to abolish all the unnecessary restrictions prevalent in the country, such as the superstitious practice of Sati, bonded labour, denial of education to women, and child marriage. Our ancestor Queen Esther, defying the law, entered the king's presence and interceded for her people.
My dear ones, let the situation change from now on, where we, like the Levite and the priest, ignore and walk away from people who are caught in the grip of the devil and lying half-dead. You who know that Jesus Christ is loving and the true God, yet hesitate, wondering what the community and relatives will say! "Break the rule" for the sake of others. Let us accept Jesus Christ and live as witnesses for Him. Forgetting what is behind, let us press on toward what is ahead and follow Christ. The Lord's hand is with us.
