How are we?
“For unto you it is given in the behalf of Christ, not only to believe on him, but also to suffer for his sake" - Philippians 1:29
It was a time when Christianity was looked down upon in China. Those who worshipped Jesus Christ were persecuted and killed. Once, ten believers were caught while worshipping God. They were made to stand in a freezing river, shivering in the cold, their teeth chattering. The soldiers stood on the riverbank and tempted them, saying, "Come, we will give you blankets and hot food, and you will also get a promotion in your work."
Even as they began to freeze in the cold, they continued to sing hymns. After an hour, one believer, unable to bear the cold any longer, came out of the river. Immediately, he was wrapped in a blanket and taken away to eat hot food. One of the soldiers, seeing the remaining nine believers, began to weep. He said, "If your faith is so strong, then your God is truly alive," and declaring, "Today I become a Christian and come to die with you," he walked into the freezing river and stood in the place where the other man had been.
How are we today? We become discouraged at the slightest suffering. At the first sign of trouble, we lament about our lives. Only by enduring unwavering suffering can we truly share in Christ's suffering.
My dear believers, The Bible says in Hebrews 11:25, 26 that Moses chose to suffer with God’s people rather than enjoy the temporary pleasures of sin. Why did he choose this? Because he was looking forward to the reward that was to come. This earthly life is temporary, We have a life. It is with God, in God's kingdom. To receive it, "we must be ready to suffer for Christ and even give our lives." May the Lord bless us!
