Scattered Cotton

 

"But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil" - Matthew 5:37

 

A woman spread bad news about her church pastor. A few days later, realizing it was false news she felt sorry for what she had done. So, after much thought, she decided to go to the pastor and apologize for her mistake. The pastor looked at her and asked, "What do you want?" Weeping, she replied, "Please forgive me, sir."

 

The pastor took her upstairs. As they went up, he took a pillow in his hand, tore it open, and scattered all the cotton in all directions, letting them fly away. Then he said to her, "My daughter, go and collect all the cotton again." "Can you do it? You can't, can you? Why? The cotton has been carried away by the wind to many places. Do you know where it has gone?" he asked. At that moment, she realized how great her mistake was and stood there with her head bowed.

 

The Holy Bible says that we will have to give an account for every word we speak. So, we are responsible even for careless and useless words. They say, "Once words are spoken, they cannot be taken back." We must be careful with all the words we speak. We cannot retrieve them.

 

Dear children of God! Before speaking, we should first think about whether what we speak is good and useful, or useless. We should especially avoid speaking about others. When we do, we will be seen as having committed great sins. Let us hate idle words and speak good words that are helpful for spiritual growth. Speaking in this way is pleasing to God and beneficial to us. Let us be careful with our words! Amen!
