Daily Devotion (English) – 12.06.2021

 

Only ordinary people are needed 

 

“God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise…” -1Chorinthians 1:27

 

In 1850, one Sunday morning, early in January a youth was making his way to his church. But due to the fierce snow storm he could not go any further and he took shelter in an old chapel. The worship was going on. The regular minister could not come due to the heavy storm. When it was time for the sermon a lanky layman whom the youth guessed to be a tailor began to preach. “Look to me, and be saved” is the verse the layman was preaching on that day. He stuck to his text and repeatedly stressed to look up to Jesus.

 

Then fixing his eyes on the youth and raising his hand he shouted, “Young man, “look to Jesus Christ. You will be saved.” The layman was not highly educated. He was not a great preacher but he was led by the Holy Spirit. An ordinary man’s preaching was so extraordinary and the youth was touched by his sermon. The words “Look to Jesus” was ringing in his heart. He began to look to God first. Then he was filled with the Holy Spirit. Do you know who that young man was? He was none other than C.H. Spurgeon, who was a prominent preacher who proclaimed the gospel powerfully. Such a great preacher was raised through an ordinary man. Many disciples who ministered with Jesus were fishermen without any formal education.

 

Beloved in Christ, to do His service, God chooses not only the efficient and talented but also the inefficient, unworthy, and un lettered and the youths and men who are considered as fools in this world and He has been using them mightily because God always accomplishes extraordinary things through ordinary men. Who knows, you may be that ordinary person foreknown to Jesus.
