Empty Praise

 

“Let us not be desirous of vain glory..." - Galatians 5:26

 

Many centuries ago, there was a king in Africa. Everyone would praise his daughter, saying, "Princess, you are so beautiful, like a rose." Because of this constant praise, the princess believed she was very beautiful. One day, some merchants came to that country. They gifted the princess, the king's daughter, a mirror. They said, "This mirror will reflect your true face." She took the mirror and looked at her face for the first time in her life. Upon seeing her reflection, she realized that her face was not beautiful, and in anger, she shattered the mirror. The princess was deceived by the praise of others.

 

When the Apostle Paul wrote to the Corinthian church, he wrote this: "But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord." (2 Corinthians 3:18)

 

Dear child of God, if you too are swayed by the praise of others, you will be disappointed like this princess. The Bible is the mirror that reflects your true condition! Read and meditate on the Bible daily and behold the glory of the Lord as you would see your face in a mirror. Let us correct the crookedness, impurities, and fleshly deeds in our inner selves. If we do this, then you are special, honourable, and beautiful in the sight of the Lord. The praise you receive from men will bring danger, but praise from God is what truly matters. “But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter”, as the apostle Paul says (Romans 2:29). So, remember you are the true princes and princesses in God’s eyes.
