The Revealing God
"…according to the revelation of the mystery, which was kept secret since the world began... But now is made manifest...the gospel concerning Jesus Christ..." - Romans 16:25,26
The name Jesus was not revealed from the beginning of time to everyone, except to His parents (Matthew 1:21). Around the birth of Jesus, there were a few people to whom God revealed Himself in different ways. Let us see how God revealed Himself to them.
When the word "Jesus" was first sown in Mary, she accepted it completely, and the Word became flesh and was revealed as Jesus (Luke 1:38). Although the word "Jesus" was revealed to Joseph, who was in a state of confusion, it was only when he heard the name "Immanuel" that his confusion was dispelled, and he joyfully accepted Mary as his wife (Matthew 1:21-25). When the prophetic power revealed in Mary's greeting touched Elizabeth and the child in her womb, Elizabeth, feeling the child leap unnaturally, was filled with the Holy Spirit and recognized Jesus as her Lord (Luke 1:39-45). When Zechariah’s tongue was loosened and he praised God, through prophecy the Lord revealed Himself to Zechariah as the horn of salvation, the Most High, and the rising light from heaven (Luke 1:75–79). The Lord revealed Himself to Simeon as the salvation and comfort of the God of Israel, and as the Lord's Christ. To Anna, who did not leave the temple but fasted, prayed, and worshipped day and night, God revealed Himself as the Redeemer. Thus, the Lord, who revealed himself to each person in different ways, appeared as Immanuel on Christmas Day, meaning "God with us," as our Savior and Redeemer.
Similarly, the Lord Jesus desires to reveal himself and work in us and in our lives in these last days. Regardless of the name by which He reveals himself to us, the power of that name will accomplish in us the purpose for which He sent it. Accordingly, Mary carried Jesus in her womb; Joseph raised Jesus in his care; and Simeon held Jesus in his arms.
Beloved ones! Like them, let us also hear the warning voice of God who meets us, saying, "Prepare to meet your God" (Amos 4:12), and let us open our hearts and accept Jesus not only as our Savior but also as the King who rules over all aspects of our lives.
