The Good Shepherd

 

"I am the good shepherd…" - John 10:11

 

A woman who worked as a daily wage labourer would visit the nearby church every day for prayer. One day, the church gave her a goat to take care of. She gladly accepted it and raised it at home. Every morning, she would give the goat water and leaves to eat before leaving for work. One day, as usual, the mother went to work and when she returned home, the goat tied in the yard of their house was missing. The mother also cried and searched for the goat in many places. Tired of searching for the goat for a long time, they went to the church nearby and prayed. What a surprise! She was happy to see the goat finally returned to the house by itself.

 

In John 10, we read the story of the good shepherd. The sheep know the shepherd’s voice. So, they listen to his voice. He calls his sheep by name and leads them out. The shepherd puts his sheep out and walks in front of them. The sheep follow him because they know his voice. They do not know the voice of strangers, so they will not follow a stranger but will run away from him. Yes, beloved, that shepherd is our Jesus Christ. We are those sheep. He gave his life to redeem us who had strayed from the path of sin and the curse, and he washed us with his blood. It is not enough for us to be saved. In this world, the enemy is leading young people astray through drinking, drug addiction, and homosexuality. The Lord weeps for us. The devil quickly enslaves young people who do not know the love of Jesus. May all of them be redeemed by His blood. Let us be vigilant, spiritually minded, and strive to carry the love of Jesus throughout the world. Let us gather the straying sheep into the Lord's fold.
