Pride and Destruction
“Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall” - Prov. 16:18
We should always have the fear of God and humility. If we are seen with a proud attitude, it will lead us straight to destruction. Let's see a few examples from the Bible.
First, Hagar, as we know, was a servant. But when she became pregnant, she considered her mistress as insignificant. Now she had the attitude of "I am the mistress." As a result, she was driven out of the house with the child by Abraham. She was chased from a comfortable place to the wilderness.
Secondly, King Uzziah, at a very young age, reigned from the age of 16. He won many wars, built towers, and revolutionized agriculture. We read that in the days that he sought the Lord, God made his things prosper (2 Chronicles 26:5). But when he became powerful, pride filled his heart, and he transgressed against the Lord his God... and entered the temple of the Lord to burn incense. The punishment for this was that he lived alone as a leper for the rest of his life. He was excluded from the temple of the Lord.
Third, Nebuchadnezzar was very powerful and had great victories. One day, while walking on the palace grounds, he said, "Is not this great Babylon that I have built... by the might of my power, and for the honour of my majesty?" At that moment, the wrath of the Lord came upon him. He was driven away from men. He ate grass like oxen. His body was wet with the dew of heaven, until his hair grew like eagles' feathers and his nails like birds' claws (Daniel 4:33). He lost all his glory.
Dear Brothers and Sisters, we stand and remain safe only by the grace of God. Let us remember the scriptures, “God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble” (James 4:6). Let us walk humbly, taking to heart the verses “The Lord will cut off the proud tongue” (Psalm 12:3). Let us receive the Lord's blessing.
