Protection from Evil

 

“…ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good…” - Gen. 50:20

 

A group of about 15 friends planned to spend the day in a forest in northern Europe. While they were talking, a sight they saw in the distance shocked them. Smoke! Fire! A spark flew as a result of bamboo trees in one part of the forest colliding with each other. It engulfed the forest in a huge fire. They were stunned to see it. In this situation, a boy came forward to deal with the fire. He took a match, struck it and then threw it in a place full of small dry sticks. Before the forest fire spread and came towards them, everyone caught him and beat him, thinking that the boy had also started a fire in another part. By then, all the grass in a radius of about 50 feet had burned to ashes. They were stunned and did not know what to do. Then the forest fire spread around them and burned well. But what a miracle! The fire did not come towards them at all. Because the place where they were standing was a burnt place. So, there was no chance of the forest fire coming there. Yes, the fire that the boy had started had already burned everything there, so everyone was saved from danger.

 

Similarly, there is an incident in the Bible where a family was saved from danger. A young man named Joseph was hated by his brothers and sold for money. Joseph is exalted in the land where he was taken as a prisoner. In those days, he acted very wisely and saved the country and his entire family from the coming famine. Joseph's brothers wanted to harm Joseph. But God turned that evil into good, saving many people alive.

 

Dear readers, in both the above incidents, the boy is beaten, and Joseph is beaten by his brothers. But both of them did good. It may be people who are with us or family members, instead of the good we have done, their hands may be raised against us and harm us. We, who are called to protect from evil, should do good to others.
