Give to God First

 

“…but she of her want did cast in all that she had, even all her living” - Mark 12:44

 

Two servants went to meet a tribal family living in a small village in the mountains of northern India and pray for them. The family, upon seeing the servants, welcomed them with great love and treated them well. They read the Bible to them, prayed, and shared the good words of the Lord with them before they departed.

 

Not wanting to send the servants home empty-handed, the woman of the house brought some bread and fruit that had been set aside for their next meal and gave them to the servants. Knowing that they had nothing else to eat besides that food, the servants refused to take it. However, the woman, thinking it was not right to send them away empty-handed, gave it to them instead. The servants prayed with heavy burden for the poor tribal family and returned back.

 

What a surprise! The next day, government officials came to the village and gave them the government-sponsored allowance for the tribals and left. The Lord did not abandon them. If we give what we can to God and His servants, God will fulfill our needs and bless us a hundredfold. The Lord sees the sacrifice of God’s children, their passion for service, and their love for the servants.

 

In the Bible, the Lord saw the heart of the poor widow who put two coins in the temple treasury. She, out of her poverty, put in all she had to live on. He did not look at how much she gave, but at what condition she gave. “The lions may grow weak and hungry, but those who seek the Lord lack no good thing”. (Ps. 34:10).

 

Yes, my dear friends, God has very powerful promises and glorious rewards for His children who give generously to Him. May God grant us the grace to give heartfelt offerings to honour the ministries and servants of God who searches our hearts and knows them!
