Honest Victory
“Sound speech, that cannot be condemned; that he that is of the contrary part may be ashamed, having no evil thing to say of you” - Titus 2:8
In the marathon race at the East Asian Games, Singaporean athlete Ashley Lui was running ahead of everyone else and was advancing towards the finish line. But he sensed that something had gone wrong, and he realized that the runners ahead of him had taken a wrong turn. Ashley could have continued running and won, taking advantage of their mistake, but the honest attitude within him made him realize that winning like that would not be a real victory. He thought that he should not run faster than others and win, and the mistakes of others should not be the reason for his victory. Because of this feeling that arose in him, he slowed down his running speed a little and joined the runners behind him.
Although Ashley lost the race and lost the chance to win a medal, he won the hearts of his countrymen. He was also given an international award in appreciation for honesty. His actions were a testament to Christian character. How could he do this? Many people asked the question. He not only spoke of the love of Christ but also showed it in action. If we want to counsel others according to the Scriptures, we will speak easily. We will tell the events of the Scriptures with evidence. But we do not think about them in our lives. The apostle Paul was able to say boldly, "Follow me." Yes, his life was a reflection of Christ.
Beloved, as we read the Scriptures every day, let us think about whether we are following the Scriptures in our actions. Let us think about whether our mouths only speak the Scriptures, and whether our lives reflect Him. The good deeds we do for others will reveal to the world that we can live differently because the Spirit is in us. Our actions speak louder than our words. They can attract the attention of the Gentiles. Our hatred of idolatry and worldly desires can turn people to God. May God help us to live such a life. Ashley Louis is still a man of conversation today because he won in an honest way that day. Let us only practice honesty no matter what circumstances we face.
