Lamp and Light

 

“Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path” - Psalm 119:105

 

To those who say, "The Bible is too old. The scriptures are not relevant to the modern world," world-renowned evangelist D.L. Moody's answer is, "The sun is also very old, but do you say we cannot use its light anymore? Will you build houses without windows and use only electric bulbs even in the daytime? No! In the same way, the Word of God is never outdated. The scriptures teach us about sin, death, forgiveness of sins, and salvation. They are a lamp and a light that guides our souls on the path that leads to eternal life."

 

Why am I living in this world? Where am I going? What is the way of peace? What is the false way? What is the true way? What is the solution to my problem? The scriptures are a lamp and light for all questions even for raising children, their future, and marriage, and they guide us to the right solutions.

 

The right answer or solution cannot be found through ancient astrology, fortune-telling, or modern Google. That is why the psalmist says, “Great peace have they which love thy law: and nothing shall offend them” (Ps. 119:165). When we wait in prayer before God about our matters, God will speak to us through His Word and through His servants, giving promises. If we pray, “Remember Your word to Your servant, for which You have made me trust” (Ps. 119:49), God will do miracles in our matters. When I was praying for my son’s life partner, God spoke to me through the verses in Gen. 24:17-19. He said, "Whichever girl the family says has the quality of being more hospitable, that girl is the person I have appointed for your son." And truly, God gave him a blessed married life.

 

Beloved in Christ! The scriptures are the lamp and light for our spirit, soul, body, and all worldly affairs. When we read the scriptures every day and practice them in our lives, the scriptures will become a lamp to our feet and a light to our path. Therefore, let us read and meditate on the scriptures. Let us receive His blessings.
