Unpurchased Cow and Useless Fight

 

“But avoid foolish questions, and genealogies, and contentions, and strivings about the law; for they are unprofitable and vain” - Titus 3:9

 

A husband and wife lived in a town. The husband never went to work. So, the wife asked her husband, "Can't you do some work and earn some money?" The husband immediately said to his wife, "Let's buy a goat. Get money from your father for it. Also, that goat will give birth. When the little ones grow up, there will be many goats. We can sell the goats and buy a cow. That cow will give milk. We can sell that milk and earn a lot of money. We can also drink coffee. We can also give a glass of milk to my father who is not well every day."

 

The wife also said, "Yes, yes, we can also give it to my mother who lives next door." Hearing this, the husband got angry and said, "Why should I give it to your mother?" The husband started shouting. Thus, a quarrel began to develop between them. Hearing the noise, the neighbour came there and found out about the matter. He looked at the husband and said, "your cow has grazed in my garden and destroyed all the crops. You must compensate me for the loss." The husband said, "How can a cow that I did not buy graze a garden that you did not buy?" The neighbour immediately said, "How can your wife give milk to her mother from a cow that you did not buy?" Realizing their mistake, both bowed their heads in shame.

 

This is what Titus 3:9 says, "Avoid arguments." If we do not give up arguments, it will waste all our time. It was good that they wanted to buy a cow. But because of this, they imagined too much and talked too much, and the husband and wife quarrelled and were ashamed in front of each other.

 

Dear children of God, we should not allow such useless arguments in our homes. We should not reach a point where others must come to settle our fights. If we do that, the name of God will be blasphemed. The name of God should be glorified, not blasphemed. Arguments will destroy our peace. Therefore, let us avoid useless arguments and maintain peace. Let us avoid arguments for our future lives like the arguments for the unpurchased cow and glorify the name of the Lord. May the Lord bless us! Amen!
