Senior Citizens Day Message

 

“With long life will I satisfy him and shew him my salvation” - Psalm 91:16

 

There are countless people who have lived long lives and have enjoyed the fruits of God's service with satisfaction! William Carey (73 years old), Hudson Taylor (73), Amy Carmichael (83), C.T. Studd (70), and Ida Scudder (90) lived to be old. Many more have lived long and served God, finishing their race and resting.

 

Even worldly people have run and won until the end of their lives. The painter Michelangelo did this work until he was 88 years old. George Burns wrote comedies until he was 87 and became famous. Albert Schweitzer was working in Africa until he was 89 years old, establishing a hospital. Bernard Shaw wrote plays until he was 93 years old. Many people died using their talents in this way until their old age. He has commanded, "When you are old, you shall honour your God and fear your God: I am the Lord" (Lev. 19:32). It is God's command to honour all the elderly.

 

There are also ministers who want to retire after serving and stay at home. When the late Devadas, the teacher of the “Angel of the Arrival” ministry, was alive, he said, "I am getting old, I need a break from ministry." God gave many revelations and revealed what God wanted him to do until his last breath. He served until his death. We should pray like the psalmist. In Psalm 71:18, the elderly should pray, “Now that I am old and my hair is gray, do not leave me, O Lord, until I have told the next generation about Your power and strength.” The Lord strengthened Moses at 120 years old, Caleb at 85, Hannah at 84, and Simeon at the ripe old age to see salvation.

 

Dear Friends, even to your old age God has promised “I will carry you even in your old age and gray hairs. I made you, I will sustain you, I will carry you, and I will rescue you”. So do not be troubled about old age. Do not be paralyzed by the thought that you cannot do it but keep working for God. Perhaps you have retired from ministry? We are providing you with the facilities to stay, relax and do God's work as a family for the rest of your life at the Village Missionary Movement. Come and teach the young workers the ways in which God has led you and the experiences that have created. We greet you and welcome you on this Senior Citizens' Day.
