Dedication
“…because thou hast left thy first love” - Rev. 2:4
In 1873, a young man went to the island Molakai to help people suffering from leprosy. He was Joseph Damien. Many people stopped him from going there. But Damien was firm in his decision and dedication. He provided many medical services to the people there. One day, boiling water accidentally fell on him. Then he was shocked to realize that his hands were numb. Yes, he too was suffering from leprosy. After recovering from the shock, Damien told the people of the island that he had become one of them. During the Sunday service that week, he praised the Lord, saying, "God loves us lepers." The severity of the disease completely overcame him, and he died at the age of 49, leaving behind the people he loved so much. The dedication of the young man Damian, who did not back down from his dedication and gave his life for the lepers, is certainly a good example for others.
Jonathan, the son of Saul, had a young man who was a dedicated armour bearer. The name of that armour bearer is not written in the Bible. Nor is there any mention of him in any other book. However, the dedication of that young armour bearer is very commendable. Jonathan, the king’s son, has his own strength, but the armour bearer has no fame, strength of any kind. The armour bearer said to Jonathan, “Do whatever is in your heart, I will go with you, as you wish.” In the same way, Jonathan followed, and together Jonathan and the armour bearer won victories. The armour bearer never backed down from his dedication.
Dear readers! Commitment is very important in our lives. How was our commitment in those days when we accepted Jesus Christ as our personal Savior and tasted His love? We were completely dedicated to Him, whether it was the time we spent praying with Him, reading the Scriptures, doing something for Him, or telling others about Jesus? But as days and years pass, how are we today? Have we left the love we had with Him in the beginning? Let us think about it. Shall we examine ourselves, correct ourselves, repair our commitment, and renew our commitment once again?
