We Must Be Clear Minded

 

"Be sober, be vigilant..." - 1 Peter 5:8

 

A young man asked a wise man a question, "Have you seen God?" He said, "Yes," and he said, "Can I see God?" He said, "You cannot." Why? The young man said, but the wise man did not answer. He took him to the bank of a pond. He stirred up water and asked him, "Now bend down and look in this water. Do you see your face?" The young man said, "No." The young man said, "Why not? Asked the wise man. Then he explained to him the appropriate reasons and taught him when we can see God.

 

My dear people of God! We are called to show Jesus to others. If we are seen with a confused mind and unclear thoughts, we cannot show Jesus to others. How is it that when the water is stirred up, his face is not visible in the water, so when we are confused, we cannot show Jesus to others. When can we show Jesus to others? When we are clear-minded, we can show Jesus to others.

 

That is why Hebrews 12:1 says, “Let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith.” Just as runners in a race take off their heavy clothes and put on their clothes that are suitable for running, so too, if we take off our heavy hearts and sinful minds, we can show Jesus clearly to others. If we have a clear mind and intellect, we can show Jesus to the world. When Jesus Christ says about this, “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.” Yes, we can see the Lord when our hearts are pure, untainted by the world, without a heart that is distracted by worldly desires. Is our heart pure and our thinking clear?
