Do not lie

 

"Ye shall not steal, neither deal falsely, neither lie one to another" - Lev. 19:11

 

Madhuram had two sons. He had five acres of land by the river and five acres of rocky land. The land by the river grew well and yielded abundant crops. But the land that was rocky could not be cultivated. Suddenly one day Madhuram fell ill and was admitted to the hospital. The two sons took turns taking care of their father. As his health deteriorated, he called his elder son and said, “You and your brother should divide both the riverbank land and the rocky land equally, without any quarrels.” Soon after, he died.

 

The younger son asked his elder brother, “What did Father say before he died?” The elder replied, “He said I should take the five acres by the river, and you should take the rocky land. The son honoured his father's word and started to repair the rocky land. As he was cutting and repairing the stones, the stones began to shine brightly. He immediately showed them to his friend. The friend said that these were expensive granite stones. He set up a factory there, exported the stones and became a wealthy man. The brother who deceived him felt sorry for deceiving his younger brother.

 

What does the above verse say? Do not lie to one another. The older brother lied so that he could deceive his younger brother. But who was really deceived? The older brother. Meanwhile, the elder brother, who had deceived him, regretted his actions. Over time, the riverbank land dried up, becoming barren, and while the younger brother had become rich, the elder brother had become poor. In the Bible, we know about Ananias and Sapphira, who ruined their lives by lying. They thought Peter didn't know about it, but they were deceiving themselves.

 

Be careful! Don't be deceived. We too will be deceived one day. "Getting riches by a lying tongue is like the breath of those who seek death" (Prov. 21:6). Put your trust in Jesus. Jesus will lift you up in due time. So let us not lie or deceive others. May Jesus bless us. Amen. Hallelujah!
