Born to Conquer
"…we are more than conquerors through him that loved us" - Romans 8:37
A great general was planning to conquer an island near his country. Only one bridge connected the island to his own country. One night, he commanded his soldiers to march across that bridge and reach the island. As soon as they reached, he ordered the bridge to be completely destroyed. When the soldiers were stunned, a soldier stood up and asked, "There is no other way for us to escape except this one bridge. If we destroy this one too, how can we escape?" The leader replied, "We have not come to escape; we have come to conquer." The bridge was destroyed, the battle was fought, and victory was secured. Later, that same bridge was rebuilt—not as a way of retreat, but as a bridge of victory
Beloved children of God, when we begin something, we should not think negatively, “What if it doesn’t work out? What if I fail?” When we think like that, we will not succeed in the thing we have taken on. Instead, we must hold on to the promise word “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Let faith be deeply rooted in our hearts.
We should never look back in our Christian race that is traveling towards salvation. We can see in the Scriptures that a cloud of witnesses, like a multitude, finished their race of faith. In Hebrews 11:15, 16, our forefathers did not want to return to the country they had left, but, despite suffering, struggles, and problems, they desired the heavenly country and received a good testimony from God.
When Elijah called Elisha, Elisha destroyed his plow and his oxen and followed him. He may have done this so that his mind would not return to the old work he had done. Lord Jesus also said, “No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for the kingdom of God.” In today’s scripture, Jesus Christ, who loves us, makes us conquerors. Therefore, let us not grow weary or turn back, but run towards our goal and win!
