Love of Money

 

“For the love of money is the root of all evil…” - 1 Tim. 6:10

 

These days, marketing money schemes are spreading rapidly, where people are told, “Invest ten thousand rupees, and after one year you will receive fifty thousand rupees.” Many people lose their money through these schemes. Some, having lost their money, even commit suicide. Think about it, money that multiplies without our labour must certainly belong to someone else. The Bible clearly says, “Do not covet your neighbor’s possessions.”

 

When we think of the love of money, the story of Ananias and Sapphira comes to mind. They sold their land. But Ananias, with his wife’s knowledge, kept back part of the money and brought only a portion to the apostles. Then Peter said, “Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and to keep back part of the price of the land? You have not lied to men but to God.” On hearing these words, Ananias fell down and died. Young men came forward, wrapped up his body, and buried him. Later, his wife also lied about the amount and fell down dead. And great fear came upon all who saw this.

 

Dear people of God, the Bible warns that the love of money is the root of all evil. An entire family died because of the love of money. And because of the love of money, Gehazi was struck with leprosy. Judas lost his position because of the love of money! Earning money in a legitimate way is a blessing. But it is very important to protect ourselves from greed. We read in the Bible that money is useful for everything. This is true, but we should not desire or trust in money excessively. We should seek God's help to live with the satisfaction that the money we have is enough for us. When we live with such good determination, God is able to give us the money we need at the right time. If we learn to live contentedly with a mind that is enough, that is the greatest blessing. May each of us receive and live this blessing!
