Overcome with Good

 

“Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good” - Romans 12:21

 

There was a wealthy man who believed that the riches God had given him were not just for himself but should benefit others as well. So, he built a church with his own money in his own place, and behind it he also gave a place for a cemetery and dedicated it to the people of the village. On the first of January, he would invite everyone to a common meal at his house and give a special feast. The Lord also blessed him in every way. One of his relatives could not bear this.

 

Although the relative, who had retired from a good and high position, also had a lot of money and his own house, but he could not bear the prosperity of the rich man, so he could not sleep well. He always complained all over the village that whatever sowed in the rich man's land grew well and yielded abundantly, and that his business also made good profits and made a lot of money. He was worried that the rich man would somehow suffer a loss. As he expected, one day the rich man called his relative and said that the business that had been giving him a lot of profit had suddenly suffered a loss and requested to loan some money to fix it. The relative gladly lent him the money, and then proudly boasted to everyone in town, “I’m the one who helped him when he faced loss!” In truth, the wealthy man had asked him for money only so that his troubled heart might find some peace

 

The apostle Paul wrote in his letter to the Romans, “Let love be without hypocrisy. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good”

 

Beloved, the Bible says: “The blessing of the Lord brings wealth, and He adds no sorrow to it.” It is the Lord who grants riches. He alone has the power to make one rich or poor. If the Lord chooses to bless others, even those near us we should praise Him for it, not envy or resent them. If we walk uprightly before Him, He will surely bless us too. Therefore, let us cast away every attitude of evil toward others, and seek the Lord’s help to overcome evil with good.
