Humility
"Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up" - James 4:10
Booker T. Washington, an excellent student, had gone for an interview to join Hampton Institute, Virginia. It was very difficult to get a place in that famous institute. At that time, the headmistress who came there told him to clean the classroom there and wipe the benches there and left. Since he expected them to ask questions related to the subject, he felt dejected for telling him to do this job, but he had no other choice but to t do it. After some time, the headmistress who came there praised him for wiping all the benches with your hand and gave him admission. He wrote this in his book that the action of the headmistress changed his life.
Similar to this incident, an incident is written in the Bible. Before the Passover, when Jesus knew that his hour had come to depart from this world to the Father, he poured water into a basin and began to wash the feet of his disciples and to wipe them with the towel he was wearing. Such a great Lord, who says, “Heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool.” The Creator who created heaven and earth by his word, showed his humility by washing the feet of his disciples. Not only that, but he also wiped them with the towel he was wearing. What humility!
My beloved! Our Lord is not a God who forces us to do anything without showing us what he has done. Because he washed the feet of his disciples and demonstrated humility, he expects humility from us too. Humility must fill our thoughts and be manifested in our actions. Even today, many people in North India welcome their relatives who come to their homes by washing and wiping their feet, to show that you are superior to me and that we respect you so much. Humility is very important to receive graces from the Lord. Let us humble ourselves before the Lord. Then He will exalt us. Let us remain humble and desire to receive His grace.
