Humility 

 

“I am gentle and humble in heart…” – Matthew 11:29

 

The 2014 world cup football final match was played between Germany and Argentina. It was a thrilling match. At last, the German player Mario Gotze scored the winning goal in extra time and Germany won and lifted the trophy. Mario, the man of faith dedicated his victory to the Lord. He posted on his face book page his declaration as follows “Dear God, I want to take a minute not to you to ask for something, but simply to say thank you for everything I have.” How he had humbled himself before God! 

 

Our Lord Jesus Christ says, “I am gentle and humble in heart.” The Bible says, “Jesus humbled himself and became obedient to the point of death even death on a cross.” Jesus taught His disciples who were in ministry to be humble and meek. He washed their feet and demonstrated his humility and asked them to do as he had done. He has left us an example that we should follow His footsteps.

 

Beloved, we know that humility goes before honour. If we learn to be humble, our path will be directed by God. Anyone can acquire worldly knowledge, if they make efforts. But God gives grace only to the humble. If we humble ourselves, there is no room for getting humiliated by others. A man of God says, “If we sleep in the cot, we may fall but if we sleep on the mat there is no chance of falling.” So, let us be humble in all the places, at all time and in everything. Let us adorn ourselves with humility as Jesus did. For sure the humble will be exalted. Let us live a blessed life by being humble and receive grace and exaltation from God.
