The Promise Keeper

 

“for he is faithful that promised" - Hebrews 10:23

 

On January 1, 1995, I made a decision to claim God’s promises in prayer every day. The promise I received that day was, "I will be with you" (Isaiah 43:2)! I have been praying about that promise every day. In May of that year, our family went to a mountain resort and stayed. One night, while walking on a brightly lit path, something like a frog bumped into my left ankle. When I looked, it was a large snake about four feet long, standing upright ready to bite. When I ran into my room to see if it had bitten me, I heard a voice in my ear, "Don't you remember that I said I would be with you?" I thanked the Lord for reminding me of the promise I had prayed for.

 

In October of that same year, when my husband suddenly had difficulty breathing due to wheezing, I was shocked when the doctor told me that if he had gone another half hour, he would not have been able to save him. Even then, the Lord showed me the promise card in front of me that said, “I will be with you.” Have you seen how much He is pleased with the prayer that we pray in faith and honour Him? When we pray with faith, believing in the promises, God answers.

 

Beloved! Promises have conditions. They require obedience. Some promises are fulfilled indirectly. They may not be fulfilled in the way we want, but in other ways, they are fulfilled with great blessings. We need patience to do God’s will and receive what is promised (Hebrews 10:36). The most important thing is not to rely on promises only for earthly things. "I will give you eternal life" is the promise mentioned in the Bible (1 John 2:25). It is our duty to believe this promise and pray for ourselves, our families, friends, relatives, and the entire nation. Shall we do it?
