The One Who Knew Us
"Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you.." - John 15:16
Born as the eldest daughter in a Christian family, I have 3 younger sisters and a younger brother. My mother would regularly send us to church and Sunday school. When we got home, she would ask us to recite the memorized verse. While this was going on, my mother died when I was 11 years old. The death of my dear mother affected me greatly. My father loved us very much and took care of us with love. That did not last either. He also died 7 years later. The deaths of both of them affected us greatly. Those who were born with my father took us into their homes and took care of us.
My life seemed like a walking corpse. I longed for love. I wondered why this had happened in my life. Then I was engaged to a missionary in FMPB. I studied at the Bible College in Allahabad for 2 years. There the Lord spoke to me. In John 15:16 He said, “You have not known me, but I have known you.” After being saved, we served in the Debrigol hills of Bihar, and among the Malto and Santali people. After that, we joined Vishwavani Mission and worked in the Delhi mission. Dr. Anandi Jebasingh engaged us in the educational development program for the slum children and evangelism among them. We started with a humble beginning, with 10 children. Today, it is functioning as an educational centre where more than 2,000 children are studying and branching out like a tree. Many of the children who studied there are teachers today. We won souls for the Lord by doing social work and God’s service. Later, God used us in Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry, from Villupuram to Cuddalore, among all communities and fishermen. He also used us in many church ministries. Now we are a retired missionary family in VMM ministry and are serving God.
Beloved! He came as a star of hope in my life when I had lost hope and was gracious enough to speak words of hope to people from many states and ethnic groups. Even today, no matter what your situation is, He will change it and use it as a blessing to others. Because it is not us, but He who has chosen us.
- Mrs. Fatima Selvaraj
