People God is Looking for

 

"... God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble..." - James 4:6

 

Every Sunday at 6 pm, a woman wearing faded jeans, an old T-shirt, and plain sandals wipes all the chairs in the church and arranges all the flowers on the platform. She has been doing this every week for the past 6 years.

 

One day, a well-dressed young man arrived at the church a little early in his Benz car. He was sitting on a chair and watching all the work this woman was doing. Thinking that she might not be able to continue her studies or was a wage labourer, he decided to help her in some way, So he took $100 from his car and approached her to offer it in appreciation of her service. But she politely refused. Even after he insisted, she still wouldn’t take it. He then offered her a ride home in his car. She smiled and said, “Thank you, but I’ll go in my own car.” She walked over to her BMW, handed him a visiting card, and left. When he saw the card, he was stunned. Because he knew that she was one of the richest people in that city. There are people who show themselves to the world as rich despite having nothing. But there are some who humble themselves in the midst of a very rich life and hide themselves from falling into the trap of pride. In any case, let us humble ourselves in a world that is running after name, fame and glory.

 

Dear readers, the tempter tested Jesus Christ by showing him proud things. Then Jesus said, “Get away, Satan!” Jesus Christ humbled himself, becoming obedient even to the point of death on the cross (Phil. 2:8). Just as this rich woman humbled herself by hiding herself, so we too should act humbly. Whatever we do, let us do it as to the Lord. Then we will receive reward from the Lord in this world and in the world to come. Amen.
