Forgiveness is the Greatest Treasure
"For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also" – Matt 6:21
"Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do," said Jesus on the cross. He forgave the sins of many during his ministry. Jesus taught us, "For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you" (Mark 11:25-26). And in John 20:23, He said, "Whose sins you forgive, they are forgiven; whose sins you retain, they are retained." We must forgive the sins of others in order to be forgiven.
A saved man once shared his testimony: In the early days of his walk with Jesus, he found it difficult to forgive those who wronged him. Instead, he prayed that God would punish them and used to proudly share these incidents as testimonies. Then, when Jesus’ words, “Do you not know what kind of spirit you are of?” made me think, when I asked God for forgiveness for them, they were not punished. Someone who knew this asked, “You don’t give such testimonies now. Have you made a mistake in your spiritual life?” To that, I said, “I was Elisha who cursed the children, but he has changed me into Elisha who sends a feast to his enemies.” This is the living testimony of people who long for heavenly dwellings.
No one hates his own flesh. The Bible says that whoever hates his brother is a murderer. Today, we do not consider our brothers and sisters as the body of Christ. Brother Navaneethar of FMPB has forgiven the man who killed his parents and has guided his family on the path of salvation.
Today, if we get angry just by seeing those who hate us, then it is true that we have become like Cain. Therefore, as God has forgiven us, let us also forgive those who have done us harm, and let us accumulate the treasure of heaven. Amen.
