The Battle Belongs to the Lord

"The Lord will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace" - Ex.14:14

One day I was driving in my car. I pulled over to do some work. Suddenly I heard someone knocking on the window. When I turned around, there was a very scary, angry man standing there. I was wondering who this was, he was so tall, and he wasn't even wearing a police uniform. He tried to open the car door. I opened the door a little to ask what was going on. Then a very angry sound came out of his mouth. But no words came out. After a couple of seconds, I realized that he was mute. He tried to open the door again and again and somehow managed to get the car keys.

Everyone on the road stopped and looked at the two of us. When I asked for the keys, he raised his hand to hit me. I could clearly see that he was bound by the devil. A force that neither of us could see pushed him away. His eyes showed fear. He threw the keys in anger because he couldn’t hit me. Despite all this, I fully experienced the peace of the Holy Spirit. That’s when I saw blood flowing from his hands. But I didn’t have a single wound on my body. Yes, God is fighting for us.

In the Bible, during the reign of King Hezekiah (2 Kings 18:5), he had such faith in God that no king before or after him had ever trusted in God. Against him, Sennacherib, the king of Assyria, came with a huge army. He blasphemed Hezekiah and blasphemed the Lord. Hezekiah and his people were silent (2 Kings 18:36). That night, an angel of the Lord went out against the Assyrian army and killed 185,000 people. Sennacherib turned back in shame. Sennacherib was slain by his own sons.

Yes, beloved, the battle is the Lord’s. “Though I walk in the midst of trouble, you will revive me; you will stretch out your hand against the wrath of my enemies; your right hand will save me” (Ps. 138:7). The Lord will protect us. Jesus loves us. Amen.

- Dr. Stephen Lysander
